As the UCCS Recreation Center heads into its fourth year of use with students and faculty, most new students may not be aware of the full capabilities and programs the 54,000 square-foot facility offers. Despite the massive work-out and training areas, the Recreation Center implements a unique and growing intramural sports program which runs for the duration of the school year.
"Generally speaking, Intramural Sports are a great way to get to meet students through healthy, competitive recreational opportunities," said Intramural Coordinator Daniel Bowan. "Intramural sports help to build community at UCCS and many students choose to form teams that compete in each different sport throughout the year."
During the first few weeks of school, the Recreation Center hosts "Tournament Week" as intramural play commences. It includes the following four tournaments:
Note: * Signifies that this league is an "Open" league; meaning simply that Mens, Womens, and Co-Rec teams are eligible to play one another throughout the season.

Intramural Seasons
According to Bowan, the two biggest intramural seasons that start the semester off are Flag Football and Soccer which are played at Mountain Lion Stadium. "Both sport seasons are 6 weeks long (each team plays 1 game a week) with playoffs and are played at Mountain Lion Stadium," Bowan said. On deck are the basketball, volleyball and dodgeball (league) seasons that last until finals week of the fall semester.
For every Intramural Sport put together there is a Free Agent Team consisting of players looking to join a team, but don't have enough students to form their own.
