Starting college is accepting that you will once again be the confused freshman with a million questions. You are likely on your own for the first time, in a new place, with responsibilities you aren't sure you really want. You have to talk to counselors, pick a major, take care of yourself when you get sick and keep your grades acceptable. Thankfully, there are places at UCCS to help.

Bookstore
The UCCS Bookstore is in the University Center on the bottom floor right next to the information desk. Students can purchase most school supplies here, including iclickers, lab coats and UCCS apparel. The attached Convenience Store is an easily accessible location at which snacks and drinks can be purchased at incredibly reasonable prices. You can purchase your textbooks from the bookstore online.

Language Center
Students who are interested in foreign languages or studying abroad will appreciate what the Language Center has to offer. Located in Dwire Hall in room 265, the Language Center provides tutoring in Spanish, French, German, Latin, ASL and Japanese. Students can also visit the Language Center to take a language placement test to determine what classes will be most effective for them.

Public Safety
The Department of Public Safety handles campus crime and parking. This is where you can buy and pick up parking passes, pay parking tickets and report any campus violations. Public Safety also handles campus delays and closures, as well as putting out safety information and procedures. They will also help you jump your car if you need it.

Counseling Center
"The University Counseling Center is designed to serve the counseling and mental health-related needs of UCCS students. Services include individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, crisis/emergency interventions and consultation sessions for concerned friends/roommates/instructors." Workshops are also offered, and counseling appointments can be made by phone or in-person.

Math Learning Center
The Math Learning Center (MLC) provides drop-in and online mathematics tutoring and small group study. Students may also access mathematical and statistical software. Tutors are undergraduate and graduate students majoring in math, physics, engineering or a related field. The center and more information can be found online at www.uccs.edu/mlc.

ROAR Office
Located in the center of the University Center (UC), the Refuge for Organizations, Activities and Recreation is a space where you can find everything you need to know about clubs and organizations on campus. This office has information on how to start a club, all the paperwork needed to host events, and a room where club meetings may be held. OSA and Student Government can be found here.

Health Center
"Many professional services are provided, including evaluation and treatment of illnesses, health problems and injuries." This includes medical attention ranging from immunizations to pregnancy tests, conducted by staff that consists of several Family Nurse Practitioners. For more information about student health insurance, see the Health Center Website.

MOSAIC
The Multicultural Office of Student Access, Inclusion and Community can be found just past the campus bookstore in the UC. This office is a space where students can engage in discussion about race, class, gender, sexuality and other social issues. Anthony Cordova, Director of the office is available daily and can be contacted at acordova@uccs.edu.

Science Learning Center
Though currently operating in the Kraemer Family Library, the SLC will be back in the Science Building by next fall. Here, students can access drop-in and online tutoring, scheduled sessions for small group instruction and extra instruction (EI) sessions in chemistry, biology and physics. All services in the SLC are free and open to all students.

Information Technology
The IT Help Desk is a resource for everything electronic. The website offers directions about services like passwords, printing, and wireless, while the actual desk is open Monday through Friday. There are detailed explanations about processes like dorm internet connections and off-campus VPN connections, with backup help at the desk or by phone or email.

Oral Communication Center
The Oral Communication Center is located in Columbine in room 312. Students who have a speech or a presentation due can take their material to the center and have others review it for errors, as well as receive advice and suggestions. The center is open by appointment only and can be reached at 255-4770.

Writing Center
The Writing Center is a great resource on campus for students looking to improve their essays and research papers. The center is in room 316 in Columbine, right across the hall from the Oral Communication Center. Students can submit papers online and receive a response within 24 to48 hours of submission, or come into the office for advising.
