With the New Year come the resolutions. We at The Scribe were interested in what resolutions the students at UCCS might have. So we asked a few of you about them. But what's the point of keeping a resolution if - according to the Mayan calendar - the world is going to end? Here's what a few of our students had to say about the subject.

Lindsay Lohr

Junior, Human Biology

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

I would like to do the Incline and get nice and healthy. I've been doing the insanity workout with one of my friends, so I'd say I'm off to a good start. I'd also like to get straight As. That's always a goal of mine.

How do you feel about the 2012 Mayan doomsday scenario?

I think the whole 2012 thing is baloney, but if it were true I'd do some exploring, maybe some skydiving and adrenaline rush type things.

Bryan Pattirane

Senior, Game Design and Development; Distributive Studies

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

I'd like to be more on time. I had been really late last semester. I'm always late for my classes. This semester I should be more on time.

Have you had any previous resolutions?

My goal last year was to gain weight. That was a goal, but I didn't make it. I came close. I just ate a lot. Before that I just ate noodles once a day, so I tried to eat more meat and healthier foods.

How do you feel about the 2012 Mayan doomsday scenario?

That's just opinion; that's not my opinion. If it is true I'd be kinda angry. I've been spending my life preparing for it. I can't live any differently because that would require money, which I don't have.

Michael Pauls

Sophomore, Anthropology

Have you had resolutions in the past?

I have in the past, but I figure the best policy is to try to make yourself better throughout the year. Most people don't follow through with their resolutions anyway.

How do you feel about 2012 being your last year on earth?

Most people don't realize that the Mayans prophesized how the earth is going to end: earthquakes, water, fire and jaguars falling from the sky. We're all going to get death cars right?

Jennifer Gonzales

Senior, Psychology

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

I'm Ms. Colorado Springs, United States this year, so I'd like to be Ms. Colorado, United States. Graduating, that's a big one. Doing well in school and make sure I'm in shape.

What do you do to prepare for that?

You have to go to a lot of events. I really like to volunteer in my community. I like the title because it gives me better access to volunteer in more places, so it's really nice. I stay in shape by jogging.

Have you kept your past resolutions?

They usually go well. Some past ones have been surviving college, taking one day at a time and being the best person I could possibly be.

How do you feel about 2012?

I'm excited. Graduation is a big thing. I know they say the world is going to end. I'll be pretty upset if it does, because I worked really hard for four years.
