Around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Aug. 15, two young adults left a bat at the Animal Receiving desk of the Pikes Peak Humane Society. Unfortunately, the bat turned out to be rabid, so the Society and the Health Department have been frantically seeking the pair who left the bat for fear they may have contracted the disease; while the incubation period is long, rabies is almost always fatal to humans once symptoms manifest, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
